Beneficial Microrganisms

A teaspoon of healthy soil contains millions of beneficial microorganisms

We ingest probiotics, like yogurt, to keep bad bacteria from colonizing our bodies; why wouldn't it be the same for the plant kingdom?! Bad bacteria and spores can make you sick! Bad bacteria and spores can also make plants sick! Some bacteria are so sophisticated that they can render plants zombies in order to carry out their infectious ways; however, we can prevent these kinds of infections in plants by applying the same concept as taking probiotics for human health. Plants utilize beneficial aspects of microorganisms (Mycorrhiza, bacteria, and insects) just like us. 'Rhizosphere bacteria may improve the uptake of nutrients to plants and/or produce plant growth promoting compounds. They also protect plant root surfaces from colonization by pathogenic microbes through direct competitive effects and production of antimicrobial agents.'

Contemporary research shows that inoculating plants and soil with beneficial Mykos and bacteria has a tremendous impact on plant health and vigor! Studies are also substantiating the amazing symbiotic relationships micro-organisms and plants share in order to benefit each other in nature. The horticulture world calls this the soil food web. I can speak from experience; Since inoculating my soil based plants with Mycorrhiza and Beneficial bacteria, my plants are much healthier, vigorous, and productive. ~Ed Hydroharbor/Home grown Hydropoincs

A couple of products we carry that are great root inoculates:

Roots Organics-Oregonism XL
Roots Organics Oregonism XL is a distinctive super-soluble formulation of endo/ecto-mycorrhizae, beneficial bacteria, and Trichoderma. The species of microorganisms in our product are specifically selected for fruiting and flowering plants with a tolerance to heavy fertilizing. Mycorrhizae colonize the root zone, forming a symbiosis with the plant’s roots, massively increasing the size and effective surface area, facilitating greater nutrient uptake, resistance to disease, and increased tolerance to drought. The beneficial bacteria and Trichoderma in this unique product also produce plant and root growth promoting compounds and protect against pathogens. Oregonism XL is incredibly versatile and effective in potting soil and hydroponics.

General Hydroponics Subculture M and B
General Hydroponics has developed two cutting edge root innoculants, SubCulture-M and SubCulutre-B. SubCulture-M is a blend of mycorrhiza that is dusted on roots during transplant. SubCulture-B is a blend of cultured bacteria that can be used in hydroponic reservoirs and in soils. Both products allow your plants to develop a symbiotic relationship with the media and nutrients, and serve to increase your plants immunity to disease and also will promote huge increase in yields.

Hydroponic Scholastics!

Sauls (Homegrown Hydroponics) and Mr. Mann (Johnson Elementary School Garden Club Administrator)

Johnson Elementary's Garden Club got a grant to set up a hydroponics system. We were lucky enough to get them all set up! We stopped by to see how everything was going and we were so impressed. Matt from our Gilbert store is pictured here with Mr. Randy Mann. Mr. Mann teaches 4th grade and is head of the Garden Club. Clearly he has a very talented group of young gardeners!-Kendra

River style aquaponics system surrounded by Ebb and Flow

Food production education in the formative years of a child's life is essential for continued interest throughout life. Young minds tend to grasp hold of their life interests early on and carry them throughout the duration of their lifetimes. I personally remember my grandmother working the earth all her life. Telling me that she feeds the ground, in order to feed the plants, which in turn, feeds us. Even with this early and consistent exposure to garden culture, I still have had to work very hard to gain the knowledge, understanding and experience about hydroponics and gardening in general. My dedication to it did not come to me until later in life. I still struggle to put these practices to use in my daily life for health and quality sake. It seems to take a lifetime to re-program the self gratification cycles obtained through fast food and grocery store culture. If children can learn good ways of self preservation early on, the better off they will be later on in life to focus their energy on sustainable modes of living; as well as, teach others. Effective learning requires active participation! Thank you Johnson Elementary and Mr. Mann for letting us help you to help so many others... -Ed

Kessil Led Lighting for Horticulture

Kessil 150 Led Magenta
Led lighting for agriculture and indoor gardening applications has been perfecting itself for years now. The current variety can be mind boggling; since some work much better than others. I have found that the Kessil 150 Magenta Led works very nicely from veg through flower as a stand alone and as supplemental. I used it as a supplemental along with compact fluorescent and High-pressure sodium with excellent results; Higher yields and better quality.-Ed

Flowering Emphasis, Unique Quad-band Formula

Similar to the PURPLE model but with a much higher ratio in the red spectrum, the MAGENTA model is a general purpose LED grow light that focuses on performance during the bloom phase. This unique quad-band spectrum blends four different types of LED chips together and is ideal for the flowering stages of growth.

Spectral Precision

Thousands of research and test hours on multitude of plants and environments used to determine
optimal spectral points for both blooming/fruiting and support throughout a growth cycle.

Intensity and Penetration

Rivals the light intensity of a 150 watt HPS bulb, with light concentrated into a single point source mixing
color into a precision tuned spectrum before it leaves the light. Dense Matrix LED technology enables
the most powerful penetration and widest spread in its class, with quality light reaching well below
a plant's canopy.

Design

Slim design and compact size make it possible to work in your garden with minimal shading and
without the lights being in the way.

Mother Earth and the Science we have developed to mimic her.

By Jeff Lowenfels and Wayne Lewis

Earth is a sentient and living being that plants, like ourselves, depend on in order to survive and sustain. Many organic systems work together in order for this symbiotic relationship, known as life, to persist. Teaming with Microbes is one of the best reads for explaining the natural systems existing in nature that keep plants sustaining and flourishing without human intervention.  By reading this book, you will have a better understanding of the natural soil food web and how it works. This book will also provide perspective to the reader on how to apply these powerful soil food web insights within your own soil or hydroponic gardens.-Ed

Humboldt County's Own Nutrients-Snowstorm Ultra

Humboldt Counties Own-Snow Storm Ultra
A potassium boost that works very well. Our customers say they have seen a night and day difference using this product specifically formulated for essential oil production results.-Ed

If you like Purple Maxx you’re gonna’ love Humboldt County’s Own Snow Storm Ultra (0-0-3). Contains potassium to increase essential oil production in plants and can be used with your favorite nutrient line. Does NOT contain molasses or carbohydrates.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
It’s important not to over fertilize. It’s never necessary to run nutrient concentration above 1000 ppm.
Soil: Typically use 5 ml (1 tsp.) per gallon of water and apply every watering or every other watering. First dose is usually applied when lights are cut back. During peak flower development dosage can be slowly increased. Continue to apply right up to harvest. If applying with Gravity or Bushmaster use only plain water — no fertilizer.
Hydroponics: Use 2 ml per gallon and run continuously. Be cautious if running nutrients over 800 ppm. For example, running 5 ml/ gallon at 1200 ppm will drop reservoir to 800 ppm in 24 hours. Some plants can take it, some cannot.
Foliar: Much more economical. Use 2-5 ml/ gallon and apply once a week. Use caution once flowers bulk up.

Root Rot in Hydroponics.

Fusarium root rot on peas.  Photo Source: Lyndon Porter

"Root rot" is a common waterborne disease that can seriously affect indoor and outdoor crops year round. "Pythium" is a generic term for several different root rot and stem rot fungus species (including Pythium, Verticillium, and Phytophthora, and Fusarium). Root rot is also known as "damping-off" in seeds, seedlings and clones.

Root Rot in hydroponics can be a very annoying and persistent condition that inhibits productivity. Luckily there are methods for preventing and treating root rot.

1. Keep the reservoir clean by sterilizing with H2O2 on a regular basis. Keeping your water temps below 70 degrees Fahrenheit will also inhibit root rot. Always make sure plenty of oxygen is being dissolved in your reservoir with an air-stone or some other agitation of the surface water. These practices will help prevent root rot causing fungi from ever establishing themselves in the first place.

2. Neem Oil: I have been aware of the extreme gardening benefits of neem oil for sometime now, even before it was available in the US. It is now marketed in the US as a leaf shine, but it is so much more. I use it as a fungicide in my hydroponics cultures and as an insecticide. It works in a symbiotic way with plants ,as plants end up integrating it within their natural resistance to predators and diseases. Neem oil kills fungi on contact and it sterilizes insect pests that come in contact with the oil or feed from plants that have absorbed the oil, rendering them unable to reproduce.

3. SM90: Uses natural coriander oil which is a fungicide to prevent and eliminate root rot.

Organic Nutrients Insect Frass

Organic Nutrients Insect Frass

Organic Nutrients Insect Frass

This product provides immediate results when your plants are top dressed with it. It triggers and boosts the plants natural immune system and plants react with immediate vitality and vigor.

-Nate-HomeGrown Hydroponics.

What is Insect Frass?

Insect Frass is insect poop (like guano or castings) But unlike bats or birds, Insect Frass actually comes from plants. In all natural ecosystems (where there are no man-made chemical pesticides), insects feed on and digest vegetation, and give it right back to plants in the form of nature's perfect plant food. Plants benefit insects - Insects benefit plants!
Frass Pellets
Insect Frass is 100% Organic plant food, and so much more...
Insect Frass naturally contains the nutrition plants require, beneficial micro-organisms, and the only immediately plant-available source of chitin (pronounced “Kite-in”). Chitin fortifies a plant from the inside out, causing an "auto-immune" response that signals a plant to produce natural toxins which fend off its natural enemies like pests and fungal pathogens. The EPA says that chitin and chitosan (see FAQ's) defend against botrytis (grey mold), powdery mildew, early and late blight, fungal pathogens in the root zone (root rot) and root-feeding nematodes. Insect Frass does NOT cause a plant to kill beneficial insects or beneficial nematodes.
Insect Frass is NOT a pesticide.
Insect Frass is NOT a fungicide.
Insect Frass will NOT put insects into your garden.
Give your plants all the benefits of Insect Frass, without the bugs!

One of the first Anglo Gardeners in the Valley of the Sun! Elisha Reavis

Elisha Reavis

'The Old Hermit of the Superstition", Elisha Reavis, was considered one of the first Anglo settler gardeners in the Phoenix Arizona area. He had an orchard and a garden in the higher elevations of the superstition wilderness and lived there alone. His orchard still remains there today. He would come off the mountain occasionally to sell his produce at the Silver King Mine, Florence, Tempe, Mesa, and in Phoenix. He is one of the only characters in Superstition wilderness lore to have known and befriended the Old Dutchman, Jacob Waltz. Our hydroponic shop takes pride in having categorical and historical ties to the old hermit, as well as the old Dutchman: 1. We are also desert gardeners, however, we enjoy teaching others how to garden efficiently and effectively in this arid desert climate; and 2. Larry, the boss man, has been at this business for over 13 years and his father and grandfather(who was known to do business with the Old Dutchman-Jacob Waltz) also ran retail operations in the valley of the sun dating back to the early pioneer days..

Green Planet Nutrients

Massive is basically their flagship product. It contains the entirety of Big Bud and has all the amino acids. It contains the main components of Bud Candy, PK 13/14, and Diamond Nectar. The Green Planet Rep explained to me that it also is comparable to Nirvana but Nirvana's triacontanol is derived from alfalfa meal and Massive's triacontanol is extracted from honey comb (bees waste).-Kendra

Massive Bloom Formulation

Massive Bloom
Massive Bloom: What is it?

Massive Bloom Formulation is the worlds best flowering additive. A high performance organically derived flowering cycle nutrient, enhanced with all the necessary micro elements including the naturally occurring hormones, to increase flower size, taste, faster cell division, healthier, more colourful, larger crop and yields.

Growers rave about how well Massive Bloom Formulation works and it is very common for growers to report increases in dry weight of over 30% which is absolutely amazing in this market of wild claims and overzealous marketing.
How Does It Work?

Massive Bloom Formulation incorporates naturally occurring gibberellic hormones designed to increase internodal spacing allowing more room for the flower to mature and swell to their full potential. After the spacing of the internodes or when flower sites have been established, the components in Massive Bloom Formulation work aggressively to produce and transport vital fluids and cell building materials to the flower sites creating truly massive stacked flower clusters full of aromatic essential oils. Massive Bloom Formulation couples the naturally occurring gibberellic hormones with the scientifically proven plant steroid triacontanol that increases the rate of photosynthesis and CO2 utilisation.

Why it Works?

Massive Bloom Formulation works because it contains the following:

L-Form Amino Acids - These are the building blocks of protein. Only L-form amino acids are assimilated properly by plants. L-amino acids help to increases chlorophyll concentration leading to higher rates of photosynthesis. They have a chelating effect on micronutrients increasing the absorption and transportation throughout the plant. L-amino acids are also precursors or activators of phytohormones and growth substances enhancing the levels of terpenoids, phenolics, flavonoids, and alkaloids. They also help reduce plant stress by strengthening cell walls.

Vitamins - There is a specially formulated vitamin profile designed to reduce environmental stresses and to stimulate essential metabolic processes as well as allow the flowers to reach peak maturity and maximum density.

Tiracontanol - This is an alcohol based sugar found in high concentrations in bees waste and alfalfa. It has a wide range of effects, stimulating the natural production of plant hormones involved in flowering. Triacontanol has been proven to stimulate photosynthesis, increase chlorophyll content, cell density and CO2 assimilation. It allows the plant to process more light to supercharge the production of essential fluids and cell building. Triacontanol found in Massive Bloom Formulation has been proven scientifically to have a direct effect on dry weight. Due to extensive extraction process and high expense, Triacontanol is not found in many products. We use a unique series of extraction techniques to ensure a consistent and powerful source of this amazing plant steroid.

Enzyme Activators - Massive Bloom Formulation contains a blend of compounds that bind to a series of enzymes to speed up the plants metabolism and to allow the conversion of the active components of Massive Bloom Formulation to be assimilated in a rapid manner.

Unique Carbohydrate Blend - Dextrose, arabinose, xylose, glucose, fructose, maltose, are just some of the carbohydrates in Massive Bloom Formulation. External sources of carbohydrates allow the plant to focus its energy on flowering and essential oil production instead of taxing itself trying to produce food.

Low Molecular Weight Humic Acid - Also known as fulvic acid, it plays a vital role as a chelater of essential minerals and organic compounds allowing them to pass through cell membranes much more efficiently. Fulvic acid stimulates enzyme production critical for plant functions. One of the most important functions of Fulvic acid is its ability to transport the other component of massive bloom formulation and important flowering materials into the cells where they are needed most.

Chelated Mineral Profile - Massive Bloom Formulation contains a complete 100% chelated micro nutrient and mineral profile such as iron, zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt and molybdenum to help support your actively growing flowers. We use several different chelates as well as fulvic acid which is a natural chelater to keep everything in perfect suspension and availability. By using these essential chelates you can be assured that you will recap all of the benefits that Massive Bloom Formulation has to offer.

Phosphorous and Potassium - These essential elements are needed in relatively large amounts to support the various plant functions critical for huge yields. Potassium is vital in the activation of more than 80 plant enzymes that regulate various functions including the opening and closing of the stoma necessary for proper gas exchange and water usage. Potassium is also a very important in the utilization and conversion of Phosphorous into an energy source. A lack of potassium will directly effect the end yield. Phosphorous is necessary because it is a component of every living cell and is involved in key plant functions such as energy transfer, photosynthesis and nutrient movement throughout the plant. Massive Bloom Formulation contains proper ratios of all three primary nutrients, Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium to ensure a fantastic result. The ratio is perfectly balanced so that your plant can complete its vital processes and create increased floral structures and essential oils. Green Planet Wholesale has gone to great lengths to make sure that these components are completely available.
Key Points

How to Use It?

Massive Bloom Formulation is the premier flowering additive and enhancer and is suitable for use with any nutrient regime no matter what the technique or grow medium. Massive Bloom Formulation is designed to be used from week 3 throughout the duration of the flowering cycle stopping the last week for the flushing period. Some growers will use Massive Bloom Formulation right from the start of the flowering stage but our suggestion is that it is optional the first two weeks and essential the remainder of the flowering period. The recommended rate is 20ml per gallon of nutrient solution. Massive Bloom Formulation will increase your ppm by approximately 400ppm so you may have to cut back on your nutrient strength to compensate. The feed schedule offered by Green Planet Wholesale takes into account the extra ppm so there is no need to cut back on your nutrients strength using Green Planet Nutrients unless your particular plant variety prefers a lower nutrient strength

3 effective nutrient lines we carry.

1. General Hydroponics Flora Nova

The beautiful marriage of organics and minerals
FloraNova® represents a breakthrough in fertilizer technology. FloraNova gives users both the strength of a dry concentrate and the ease of a liquid. This unique formulation of highly purified minerals and natural additives combines the benefits of both organic and soilless gardening methods. Optimum nutrient absorption is aided by natural humic extracts for increased quality and superb yields. FloraNova is a one part formula that is pH stabilized and outstanding for all plant types.

• Designed to work in Coco, Hydroponics, Soilless and Soil.
• Use Liquid KoolBloom and Floralicious Plus with FloraNova for increased flower production.

Remember that due to its high concentration, FloraNova must be shaken vigorously before each use!

General hydroponics is what we call the 'Tried and True' of hydroponic nutrients. Flora Nova is the culmination of their plant science and is a favorite for our in-store displays.

2. Aptus Nutrients

FaSilitor aids in uptake of nutrients, strengthens plants structure and increases the plant’s ability to handle various environmental stresses (abiotic and biotic). It increases the absorption and bioavailability of all other nutrients by acting as an efficient transporter for other elements. This increases general plant strength, health and nutrition.
Some of the effects seen with FaSilitor can appear like those of plant growth regulators (PGRs). Aptus products contain no synthetic or unnatural PGRs! The key thing to understand is that FaSilitor works with natural plant mechanisms rather than trying to manipulate in unnatural ways.
  1. Silicic acid provides immediately bio-available silicon when and where the plant needs it. Read more on the specific effects of silicic acid under the product technologies section.
  2. Boron stimulates the production of plant fibers (increases dry weight) and stimulates root hairs to leach sugars into the medium, which feeds micro-life.
  3. Molybdenum acts as a nitrogen pump, helping move nitrogen from the lower leaves (old growth) to the higher leaves (new growth).

Why Use FaSilitor

  • Resistance against abiotic (environmental: temperature, wind, drought).
  • Resistance against biotic stress (living: pests and pathogens).
  • Improves uptake, absorption and utilization of nutrients.
  • Stronger cell structures and epidermis layer creating stronger plants and thicker stems (increases dry weight).
  • Reduces and controls the space between internodes caused by temperature stress and unbalanced nutrition.
  • Increases resistance against salinity (nutrient salt buildup).
  • Reduces transpiration (loss of moisture from the leaves).

How to Use FaSilitor

Add FaSilitor FIRST to your reservoir of clean water every feeding during all stages of plant growth. It’s very important to add FaSilitor before any other nutrients and boosters to maximize effectiveness.

Education

  • Silicic acid provides immediately bioavailable silicon when and where the plant needs it. Read more on the specific science of silicic acid under Core Product Technologies.
  • Boron (B) is the basis for all other nutrient usage. Particularly, it enhances calcium (Ca) uptake and stimulates the production of plant fibers (better quality, more dry matter). Read more on this under Biochemical Sequencing.
  • Molybdenum (Mo) is a key part in the activity of the nitrogenase enzyme. When Nitrogen (N) is missing, plants look for molybdenum in order to stimulate nitrogenase activity, which helps move Nitrogen from old leaves to new leafy growth. This is important to understand during diagnosis. If N is deficient in upper leaves but okay in lower leaves, you may have a Mo problem not and N problem!

FaSilitor Key Ingredients

  • Silicic Acid [ Si(OH)4 ] – Nutrient transporter, plant strengthener, immune booster
  • Boron (B) – A precursor to all other nutrient utilization
  • Molybdenum (Mo) – Moves Nitrogen from lower to upper leaves

Tips from the field

  • Very important! FaSilitor is an ultra-pure liquid and should not be contaminated. Always mix FaSilitor first in your reservoir filled with clean water (reverse osmosis or dechlorinated). The precise chemistry of FaSilitor is negatively affected if water already contains added fertilizers (especially NPK).
  • If during early bloom your plants continue to stretch too much, double the dose of FaSilitor for a couple feedings. This helps tighten node spacing and slow vertical stretching.
  • FaSilitor makes plants more compact. Used from the beginning of vegetative growth tends to produce a wider plant with more branches and tighter internodes.
  • If you are experiencing nutrient deficiencies, often FaSilitor helps correct these deficiencies within a few days by making existing nutrients more bioavailable. This is a better option than adding more nutrients and potentially causing more antagonism.

No complaints ever from this ground breaking nutrient delivery system. Use this in conjunction with your favorite base nutrients and your plants are like super-charged; pest and stress resistant, and stockier and more vigorous. Have heard plants described as looking like rubber plants when using this product.

3. Canna Nutrients
TerraTerraCANNA’s nutrients for cultivating on pre fertilized soil and soiless mediums are called CANNA TERRA. CANNA TERRA can be used for cultivation in both containers & beds, indoor & outdoors. The biggest advantages of growing with soil based systems are its ease of use and the tolerant nature of this medium.
Aqua

Aqua

CANNA Aqua is the nutrient that has been specifically developed for the use in combination closed hydroponic systems, like NFT or Bubbler systems. With these systems the drainage water isn’t removed but is reused.
In this sort of system the plants are in direct contact with the nutrient solution. Because the plants do not absorb all the nutritional elements with equal speed or in equal amounts, the composition of the nutrient solution changes over time.
Coco

Coco

CANNA Coco was the first nutrient product that was suitable for use when growing on coco and it still hasn’t been equalled after all these years.
CANNA Coco gives unrivalled results on CANNA’s coco substrate. This substrate combines the tolerant, organic nature of soil with the precision of rockwool. Due to the special characteristics of the substrate the nutrient doesn’t have a Vega and Flores variant, but there is one unique formulation for both growth and blooming phase. We can’t make things easier!
Substra

Substra

CANNA Substra is the nutrient for systems in which the drainage water is not returned to the nutrient tank but drains away (Run-to-Waste / Open hydroponic systems): the most popular cultivation method in the Netherlands and CANNA Substra is the nutrient that is most used for this system.
Additives

Additives

CANNA additives are products meant for use alongside the main nutrient.
They are not complete nutrients themselves but a way to complete your nutrients during the different stages in the growing cycle of your crop. They are used to improve plant health and yield.
There are four different additives available, all with their own purpose.
Canna Website                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     We are very impressed with Cannas unique line of nutrients. We use this line on our shop displays as well with great results. The additives are great for use with other base nutrient lines and I can say the Rhizotonic (Root builder) and Cannazyme(enzyme and resistance builder) are absolutely amazing products.
