2. Aptus Nutrients

FaSilitor aids in uptake of nutrients, strengthens plants structure and increases the plant’s ability to handle various environmental stresses (abiotic and biotic). It increases the absorption and bioavailability of all other nutrients by acting as an efficient transporter for other elements. This increases general plant strength, health and nutrition.
Some of the effects seen with FaSilitor can appear like those of plant growth regulators (PGRs). Aptus products contain no synthetic or unnatural PGRs! The key thing to understand is that FaSilitor works with natural plant mechanisms rather than trying to manipulate in unnatural ways.
  1. Silicic acid provides immediately bio-available silicon when and where the plant needs it. Read more on the specific effects of silicic acid under the product technologies section.
  2. Boron stimulates the production of plant fibers (increases dry weight) and stimulates root hairs to leach sugars into the medium, which feeds micro-life.
  3. Molybdenum acts as a nitrogen pump, helping move nitrogen from the lower leaves (old growth) to the higher leaves (new growth).

How to Use FaSilitor

Add FaSilitor FIRST to your reservoir of clean water every feeding during all stages of plant growth. It’s very important to add FaSilitor before any other nutrients and boosters to maximize effectiveness.

  • Silicic acid provides immediately bioavailable silicon when and where the plant needs it. Read more on the specific science of silicic acid under Core Product Technologies.
  • Boron (B) is the basis for all other nutrient usage. Particularly, it enhances calcium (Ca) uptake and stimulates the production of plant fibers (better quality, more dry matter). Read more on this under Biochemical Sequencing.
  • Molybdenum (Mo) is a key part in the activity of the nitrogenase enzyme. When Nitrogen (N) is missing, plants look for molybdenum in order to stimulate nitrogenase activity, which helps move Nitrogen from old leaves to new leafy growth. This is important to understand during diagnosis. If N is deficient in upper leaves but okay in lower leaves, you may have a Mo problem not and N problem!

Tips from the field

  • Very important! FaSilitor is an ultra-pure liquid and should not be contaminated. Always mix FaSilitor first in your reservoir filled with clean water (reverse osmosis or dechlorinated). The precise chemistry of FaSilitor is negatively affected if water already contains added fertilizers (especially NPK).
  • If during early bloom your plants continue to stretch too much, double the dose of FaSilitor for a couple feedings. This helps tighten node spacing and slow vertical stretching.
  • FaSilitor makes plants more compact. Used from the beginning of vegetative growth tends to produce a wider plant with more branches and tighter internodes.
  • If you are experiencing nutrient deficiencies, often FaSilitor helps correct these deficiencies within a few days by making existing nutrients more bioavailable. This is a better option than adding more nutrients and potentially causing more antagonism.

No complaints ever from this ground breaking nutrient delivery system. Use this in conjunction with your favorite base nutrients and your plants are like super-charged; pest and stress resistant, and stockier and more vigorous. Have heard plants described as looking like rubber plants when using this product.

3. Canna Nutrients
TerraTerraCANNA’s nutrients for cultivating on pre fertilized soil and soiless mediums are called CANNA TERRA. CANNA TERRA can be used for cultivation in both containers & beds, indoor & outdoors. The biggest advantages of growing with soil based systems are its ease of use and the tolerant nature of this medium.


CANNA Aqua is the nutrient that has been specifically developed for the use in combination closed hydroponic systems, like NFT or Bubbler systems. With these systems the drainage water isn’t removed but is reused.
In this sort of system the plants are in direct contact with the nutrient solution. Because the plants do not absorb all the nutritional elements with equal speed or in equal amounts, the composition of the nutrient solution changes over time.


CANNA Coco was the first nutrient product that was suitable for use when growing on coco and it still hasn’t been equalled after all these years.
CANNA Coco gives unrivalled results on CANNA’s coco substrate. This substrate combines the tolerant, organic nature of soil with the precision of rockwool. Due to the special characteristics of the substrate the nutrient doesn’t have a Vega and Flores variant, but there is one unique formulation for both growth and blooming phase. We can’t make things easier!


CANNA Substra is the nutrient for systems in which the drainage water is not returned to the nutrient tank but drains away (Run-to-Waste / Open hydroponic systems): the most popular cultivation method in the Netherlands and CANNA Substra is the nutrient that is most used for this system.


CANNA additives are products meant for use alongside the main nutrient.
They are not complete nutrients themselves but a way to complete your nutrients during the different stages in the growing cycle of your crop. They are used to improve plant health and yield.

Hydroponics is taking hold!

Modern hydroponics was developed as a space age solution for food production during deep space exploration; however, the application is thousands of years old (Inca floating islands). NASA and Walt Disney are largely responsible for the modern development of what the Incas and Babylonians were known to have applied in their own ancient civilizations utilizing the resources they had access to at the time for the benefit of their whole society. The world today is a very different landscape than the ancient world, and the space age's infancy for that matter, but there is no doubt we depend on technology and society as a whole to sustain in a modern world. As a result of  applying modern politics, economics, and technology, we have become disconnected from so many essential things as a society including the sources of our own food supply; Can we say 'Maslows Hierarchy of Needs'? Despite this resultant factor in modern society's awareness of community,  the principles of caring and sharing (like the ancient ones)  is gaining momentum and hydroponics is quickly becoming a viable solution for seizing the means of food production on a grass roots scale utilizing modern technology.

5 Gallon Deep Water Culture (DWC) Passion Fruit Tutorial

Assembling and maintaining a deep water culture for a passion fruit vine can be relatively inexpensive and easy.

Resources needed:

1-5 gallon bucket (black)
1-5 gallon mesh bucket lid
about 4' of 1/4" airline tubing
expanded clay pebbles(medium)
1 rooted passion fruit plant(either from cutting or seed)
A light source.

Step 1. Clean bucket, lid, and net pot with a 10% bleach solution, or hydrogen peroxide works well.

Authors note: A sterile environment is critical in this type of hydroponic culture because plants do not require bacteria and fungi to break down their food source prior to uptake; nutrients are available instantly for the plants use.

Step 2. Drill a 1/4" hole or cut a notch out of the top of the 5 gallon bucket for the airline to enter.

Step 3. Route airline through hole or notch. Attach air stone to airline, secure air-stone to bottom of the 5 gallon bucket and then the other end of airline to the air-pump.

Step 4. Mix your choice of hydroponic nutrients into a solution starting with a purified water source. Click Here for detailed information on effective nutrient mixing.

Authors note: I recommend introducing nutrients at 1/4 - 1/3 of the manufacturers suggested strength to start out with. If measuring PPM, start off with 250 PPM. Gradually increase nutrient strength as the plant becomes acclimated to the concentration of nutrients. Passion fruit prefers a PH between 5.8 and 6.2. Also, keep the nutrient solution cool and dark, preferably between 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit for best results.

Step 5. Transplant rooted Passion Fruit Vine into the mesh bucket lid using the expanded clay pebbles to secure the plant in an upright position. Place the lid and net pot on the 5 gallon bucket. Plug in the air-pump to start dissolving oxygen into the nutrient solution. This needs to occur at all times for successful plant health and vigor.

Authors note: Adjust the nutrient solution to about an inch above the bottom of the net pot and maintain level until the roots drop down into the solution, then let the water level drop for maximum oxygen at the roots for optimum nutrient uptake.

Step 6. Provide a light source. Passion Fruit are a low light loving plant. You can use the ambient light form a window, or a 250 watt Metal Halide should do the trick nicely.

Authors note: A trellis for the vine to grab onto and spread out will also become necessary as the plant matures.
