Mother Earth and the Science we have developed to mimic her.

By Jeff Lowenfels and Wayne Lewis

Earth is a sentient and living being that plants, like ourselves, depend on in order to survive and sustain. Many organic systems work together in order for this symbiotic relationship, known as life, to persist. Teaming with Microbes is one of the best reads for explaining the natural systems existing in nature that keep plants sustaining and flourishing without human intervention.  By reading this book, you will have a better understanding of the natural soil food web and how it works. This book will also provide perspective to the reader on how to apply these powerful soil food web insights within your own soil or hydroponic gardens.-Ed

Humboldt County's Own Nutrients-Snowstorm Ultra

Humboldt Counties Own-Snow Storm Ultra
A potassium boost that works very well. Our customers say they have seen a night and day difference using this product specifically formulated for essential oil production results.-Ed

If you like Purple Maxx you’re gonna’ love Humboldt County’s Own Snow Storm Ultra (0-0-3). Contains potassium to increase essential oil production in plants and can be used with your favorite nutrient line. Does NOT contain molasses or carbohydrates.
It’s important not to over fertilize. It’s never necessary to run nutrient concentration above 1000 ppm.
Soil: Typically use 5 ml (1 tsp.) per gallon of water and apply every watering or every other watering. First dose is usually applied when lights are cut back. During peak flower development dosage can be slowly increased. Continue to apply right up to harvest. If applying with Gravity or Bushmaster use only plain water — no fertilizer.
Hydroponics: Use 2 ml per gallon and run continuously. Be cautious if running nutrients over 800 ppm. For example, running 5 ml/ gallon at 1200 ppm will drop reservoir to 800 ppm in 24 hours. Some plants can take it, some cannot.
Foliar: Much more economical. Use 2-5 ml/ gallon and apply once a week. Use caution once flowers bulk up.

Root Rot in Hydroponics.

Fusarium root rot on peas.  Photo Source: Lyndon Porter

"Root rot" is a common waterborne disease that can seriously affect indoor and outdoor crops year round. "Pythium" is a generic term for several different root rot and stem rot fungus species (including Pythium, Verticillium, and Phytophthora, and Fusarium). Root rot is also known as "damping-off" in seeds, seedlings and clones.

Root Rot in hydroponics can be a very annoying and persistent condition that inhibits productivity. Luckily there are methods for preventing and treating root rot.

1. Keep the reservoir clean by sterilizing with H2O2 on a regular basis. Keeping your water temps below 70 degrees Fahrenheit will also inhibit root rot. Always make sure plenty of oxygen is being dissolved in your reservoir with an air-stone or some other agitation of the surface water. These practices will help prevent root rot causing fungi from ever establishing themselves in the first place.

2. Neem Oil: I have been aware of the extreme gardening benefits of neem oil for sometime now, even before it was available in the US. It is now marketed in the US as a leaf shine, but it is so much more. I use it as a fungicide in my hydroponics cultures and as an insecticide. It works in a symbiotic way with plants ,as plants end up integrating it within their natural resistance to predators and diseases. Neem oil kills fungi on contact and it sterilizes insect pests that come in contact with the oil or feed from plants that have absorbed the oil, rendering them unable to reproduce.

3. SM90: Uses natural coriander oil which is a fungicide to prevent and eliminate root rot.
